2024 BSF Scholarship Recipients (Left to Right - Alessandra Tabbu, Mariella Cajina, Lesly Silva-Rosales, Laura Khuu, Isabella Thai)
Mariella Cajina
Mariella graduated from Carondelet High School and was involved in many extra-curricular activities, such as varsity tennis, Santa Clara University Summer Engineering Seminar, Habitat for Humanity, Contra Costa County Food Bank, and peer counseling. She also started a non-profit organization called Girls Garage, which teaches girls how to use tools in the trades. Mariella wants to study civil and environmental engineering or architecture and is attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall.
Laura Khuu
Laura is a graduate of Middle College High School in San Pablo. She held various leadership roles in the Associated Student Body of her class. In 2023 she was a research intern in Stanford’s Department of Surgery's Program in Academic Healthcare Administration. She was the Winner of Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement’s (MESA) Diversity in STEM Summer Series for Sustainability (DS4) Program and varsity team captain of the track team. Laura’s interest of study is bioengineering and environmental studies and will be attending UC Davis this fall.
Lesly Silva-Rosales
Lesly graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class at Pittsburgh High. She participated as a Global Glimpse Alumni Ambassador and applied her learnings from the Dominican Republic back to her community. She was a Quest Bridge College Prep Scholar & National College Match Finalist in addition to being an AP scholar with distinction. Involvement in school activities included President of ASB, Varsity Captain of Track and Field, HSF youth leader and student tutor. Lesly is interested in immigration law and received early acceptance to UC Berkeley.
Alessandra Tabbu
Alessandra graduated from Carondelet High School and was very involved in extracurricular activities such as Leadership in the Asian Pacific Islander Club, Society of Women of Women Engineers, Track and Field, Teens in health, peer counseling and basketball coach. In addition to her academic achievements, she worked as a volunteer shift supervisor at John Muir Hospital. Alessandra wants to major in biology and study to be a physician’s assistant in dermatology. She will be attending Cal State San Luis Obispo in the fall.
Isabella Thai
Isabella graduated from Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek. She was President of the school Math Club and VP of the Medical Club. Other school activities included advanced choir, martial arts and piano, sports coach, camp counselor and the winner of the Berean Christian’s Business Competition. She’s also a Researcher of Carbon Capture and Sequestration. Isabella wants to pursue the medical field and be a neurologist or ER doctor. She is attending UC San Diego in the fall.
Adelina Zheng
Adelina graduated from Acalanes High School and is an AP scholar with distinction. She is an accomplished pianist, violinist and ballet dancer. Some of her school activities are Robotics Club, Co-President of the Math Club and she founded a crochet club. She has been awarded the Math Department Award, the UCLA Social Entrepreneurship Summer Institute, Piano Level 10 First Class Honors, and Piano Level 10 First Class Honors. Adelina wants to study applied math with an emphasis in biostatistics and will be attending Brown University this fall.
