Crystal Viramontes Tse — Crystal is graduating from De Anza High School. She will be attending Brown University in Rhode Island this fall. Her fascination with Biology has lead her to choose a major in that field. It seems to give her the extra dimension in life that she needs to understand the world around her. Her extra curricular activities have been, and will be this summer to work with Spawners. It does monthly creek restoration projects in the East Bay. Our scholarship is vital to her ability to attend the college she has dreamt of.
Sophie Zang — Sophie is graduating from San Ramon Valley High, and has been accepted to Princeton in the fall. She will be attending the Woodrow Wilson school of Public Affairs and will major in Public Policy. Her goal is to become a Human Rights Lawyer. She volunteered at Breakthrough Oakland last summer and has plans to do the same this summer. This scholarship is a large help in pursuing the college of her dreams.
Diane Neypes — She will be graduating from College Park High School in a few weeks. Diane will be attending Azuza Pacific University this fall. She is excited to embark on a major in Nursing. Never shy from wanting to help others, she has been supportive to her younger sisters for many years – all who have come from an abusive home. She also has been mentoring some younger classmates at the High School she has attended. She has dealt with many challenges to get to this place and without this scholarship, she simply could not afford her college choice.
Justine Rawlings — Justine has been on a long journey in life already. It has taken some real life experience to get where she is now, but she is ready to take on her goals with much confidence. She has graduated from Diablo Valley Junior College and been accepted to CSU East Bay for the fall. She wants to be a Social Worker and plans to get a Masters in this field as well. She knows how important this work is first hand. She is excited to help others in their paths to success and has held some workshops in the Apartment Complex she has been living in these last couple of years. She is very knowledgeable about various programs and the help that’s available to others who want to create a better life for themselves and their families.
Azeema Yahya — Azeema is attending Concord High School and graduating in a few weeks. She has been accepted to UC Davis starting this fall. Her major will be Sociology with an emphasis in Public Relations. She is leaning towards Educational pursuits as her career. Right now she is working with the organization Little Girl – Big Dreams. It is helping to provide more scholarships to girls in the future. How is that for the perfect fit! She absolutely needs this scholarship to be able to fulfill her dreams of higher education.
LeaJe' Morris — LeaJe graduates from Making Waves Academy in Richmond this month, May 2015. She has been accepted to UC Berkeley in the fall and is choosing a major in Political Science. She plans to pursue a law degree and is interested in social justice. She has had to overcome plenty of challenges to get to this point and fortunately she has some good mentors and supporters. She plans to work with other students in her community this summer to help motivate them, and be herself a role model to them.
Nubia Escamilla — After graduating from Contra Costa Community College, she will be attending either UCLA or UC Irvine. She will be making her decision within the month. Her major will be Chemical Engineering. Her community service projects have been tutoring younger in students in math and science. She is wanting to help instill an interest in these fields with several of her tutoring jobs. She would not be able to attend these Universities and attain her degree, if not for our scholarship.
