2021 BWSF Scholarship Recipients (L to R): Monica Hicks, Chisomaga Ekwueme, and Audrey Berry. Not pictured Kalani Dunn.
Audrey Berry - Audrey is a Concord High Senior whose passion for languages led her to study American Sign Language (ASL) and become an ASL tutor. Bound for CSU Northridge, Audrey plans to major in Deaf Studies and become an ASL interpreter.
Kalani Dunn (not pictured) - Starting a cosmetics business and editing and founding a virtual magazine were just some of Kalani’s entrepreneurial and creative pursuits. It’s no surprise that this Pittsburg High Senior will major in Media Studies at UC Berkeley and continue advocating for social justice.
Chisomaga Ekwueme - Disappointing first hand experience with family members’ healthcare inspired Chisomaga to volunteer in and study the medical field. Transferring to UCLA from Diablo Valley College, she will put that experience to use studying Human Development and Biology.
Monica Hicks - Monica’s perseverance helped her turn her life around and she often shares her experience with addiction to help others. This Diablo Valley College student has taken on various leadership and volunteer roles and heads to Stanford where she will major in Computer Science.
